As a ceramics tech intern:
My role as a ceramics intern is to work effectively within a small team, under the supervision of two lead technicians, in order to ensure the most efficient running studio possible. Our roles include proper removal of clay and glaze liquid waste to proper EBMUD disposal regulations, systematic clay recycling and pugging, handling of dry materials (such as glaze mixing) to EH&S standards, and firings of all works in the studio. Additionally, we will work as teaching assistants for the beginner pottery and sculpture classes.
As a darkroom technician:
I maintain an efficient black and white darkroom for both public and class use. My role is to conduct thorough maintenance on the development area, all 9 enlargers, proper chemistry mixing and storage, and general cleaning. All chemistry disposal is done to EBMUD regulation, and all handling and mixing of chemicals is to EH&S and OSHA standards.
As a gallery preparator:
Duties include hanging and installing works, patching and painting sites, layout and labelling, communicating with the curated artists for effective install, and executing successful art show openings. As a result of my IT background, my area of expertise in gallery setup is in the installation and troubleshooting of AV systems. I specialize in the set up of computers, projectors, audio, and most other forms of media. I've worked under the direction of Farley Gwazda at the Worth Ryder Art Gallery at UC Berkeley for over 3 years, and freelanced gallery prep throughout the Bay Area for various locations and artists, including Azin Seraj and Anne Walsh.
